Social Dominance is a LunarCrush field representing roughly what share of all the social conversation LunarCrush tracks (across every asset) belongs to this one asset. It’s not a MarketMoodIQ-computed metric — we read it directly from LunarCrush’s coin response.
Where it comes from and how we use it
On MarketMoodIQ, Social Dominance isn’t currently displayed as its own dedicated card. Instead, it’s used defensively inside the ingestion pipeline: when a coin’s post-count and 24-hour social-volume fields aren’t present in a given API response, we fall back to Social Dominance as a stand-in input for Social Volume rather than leaving the field empty.
How to read it
Because it’s a share of the entire tracked market, Social Dominance behaves differently from raw Social Volume — an asset’s dominance can fall even while its own posting activity is flat, simply because other assets are generating more conversation elsewhere. A rising dominance figure means an asset is capturing a larger slice of total crypto social attention, not necessarily that its own volume is growing in absolute terms.
Common misreadings
Don’t read a Social Volume figure that was backfilled from Social Dominance as a literal post count — it’s a percentage-share value being used as a fallback, not a native count, and only appears in that role when the primary volume fields are missing from the source data.
